Alysoun Smalley has been Deputy Principal – Student Learning Culture and Growth at Marist-Sion College Warragul since the start of 2025. With over thirteen years of experience in Catholic education and thirty years of teaching French in secondary schools, Alysoun brings a deep commitment to educational excellence, equity and innovation. Her leadership supports a culture of high expectations, inclusive practice and ongoing professional growth across the College and is currently leading the implementation of an Instructional Model.
Alysoun is committed to improving student outcomes. She is dedicated to building teacher capacity through mentoring, coaching and professional learning communities. Her approach is grounded in collaboration, research-informed practice and a belief that strong relationships and reflective dialogue drive meaningful improvement.
In addition to her leadership in learning and teaching, Alysoun is a VCE French Assessor and maintains a strong interest in languages, literacy and global education. She is also a passionate musician, having performed as a choral singer with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Choir and at the Sydney Opera House. She plays piano and violin and brings creativity and cultural perspective to her work.
Having lived in the United Kingdom, France, Greece and Dubai, Alysoun brings a global outlook and deep cultural awareness to her leadership. Her work is underpinned by Catholic values and a commitment to fostering a respectful, inclusive and engaging learning environment for both students and staff.
Alysoun is known for her thoughtful, relational leadership and her ability to bring people together to achieve shared goals and long-term educational impact.
