Reconciliation
Our Commitment to Reconciliation
Marist-Sion College is committed to walking the journey of reconciliation with integrity, respect, and a deep sense of responsibility. Our ongoing relationship with local Kurnai Elders and community members is central to our efforts to create a culturally safe and inclusive environment for all.
We work closely with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff, students and their families to ensure their voices are heard and valued in shaping a school culture that celebrates identity and heritage. Through curriculum, cultural events, and community partnerships, we aim to deepen understanding of First Nations histories and perspectives across our College.
Friends Igniting Reconciliation through Education (FIRE) Carrier Program
The FIRE Carrier program is a student-led initiative that promotes reconciliation and cultural awareness within the school community. FIRE Carriers act as ambassadors for justice and understanding, helping to educate peers about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories, and contributions. At Marist-Sion, FIRE Carriers work alongside local Elders and staff to lead events, support cultural learning and foster a spirit of respect and inclusion.
We are actively working towards a FIRE Carrier Covenant, a document similar to a Reconciliation Action Plan that embeds reconciliation into the life of the College and ensures that all students and staff are part of this important journey.
We believe that reconciliation is not a one-time event, but a lifelong commitment to healing, learning and unity.
